Bhubaneswar to Puri–Konark: How to Plan a Smooth Short Itinerary

Why This Route Works Perfectly for a Short Trip?

If you’re looking for a quick getaway that blends culture, spirituality, and coastal charm, the route from Bhubaneswar to Puri via Konark Sun Temple is honestly one of the easiest and most rewarding circuits in India. The distances are short, the roads are scenic, and you get to experience three very different vibes in just a couple of days, temples, beaches, and heritage all in one go.

Day 1: Bhubaneswar to Konark to Puri

It would be better to start your journey a little earlier from Bhubaneswar in order to get the most out of your day. The distance between Bhubaneswar and Konark would take around 1.5-2 hours to cover, and this would be a nice drive, especially as you get closer to the coast. Your first halt should be at the world-famous Sun Temple at Konark, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is renowned for its beautiful architecture resembling a giant chariot.

After spending a couple of hours at this place, you should take a detour at the nearby Chandrabhaga Beach before proceeding further.

In the afternoon, you should move on to Puri, which is just about an hour’s drive from where you are. Once you arrive at Puri, you should check in and then move off to the beach straight away. The golden sands and the soothing waters are just what you would need for a relaxing evening. Watching the sun set is in itself a ritual, and it is quite simple and therapeutic in a weird way.

Day 2: Puri Exploration and Return

You can begin your day with a visit to the famous Jagannath Temple. It is one of the most prominent temples of India, and you are sure to find a crowd there, but it is definitely worth the visit. It would be best if you could visit the temple as early as you can.

After this, you can spend more time at the Puri Beach or visit some handicraft shops. The town itself is pretty casual, so you don’t have to worry about hurrying. Enjoy your breakfast, take your time, and just relax.

In the afternoon, you can start making your way back to Bhubaneswar, which takes about 1.5 hours. If you have the time, you can visit a few of the attractions there, such as the Lingaraj Temple.

Travel Tips for a Smooth Journey

Planning this trip is quite easy, and a couple of small suggestions would only add to the comfort of the trip. It would be best to start early in the morning on Day 1 so that you are able to visit Konark comfortably without any kind of rush. The roads are in good condition from Bhubaneswar, Konark, and Puri, and hence it would be best to drive yourself.

It would be best to wear light clothing and apply some sun protection, as you would be walking a lot, especially at the temple sites. It would be best to carry some cash, as you would be shopping at the local markets.

Where to Stay in Puri?

When it comes to accommodation, Puri has plenty of options ranging from budget stays to more comfortable beachfront properties. Choosing a hotel near the beach can really elevate your experience, giving you easy access to early morning walks and relaxed evenings by the sea. Several well-located hotels in Puri offer sea-facing rooms, in-house dining, and easy connectivity to major attractions like Jagannath Temple.

A Short Trip That Feels Complete

The reason this itinerary is so appealing is that it is so easy. In only two days, you get to enjoy a mix of heritage, spirituality, and beach relaxation without having to spend too much time traveling or organizing.

It’s a trip that feels really organic, moving from heritage to beach. And when you leave, you feel as though you’ve seen so much more than you would have if you had  only spent this short time there.
